Gender Map
Gender has never been an issue for me. As a kid, some days I would play dress up and dance around. Other days I would collect cicadas for hours, filling buckets to the brim, organized by stage in the cicada lifecycle. My gender is an act of performance. I change my look regularly, play with color, shape, size. Only once in my life did I feel like my appearance did not fit my my gender. So one day before class I cut the blonde ponytail off and dyed my hair red. My look has circled back, now I have the same hair I had when I was two years old.
